UPDATE:
Lance Corporal John G. Curtin
Corp Curtin

After almost a year of hospitalization, multiple surgeries, multiple prosthetic fittings, and a grueling physical and occupational therapy regiment, John has started his medical board to get discharged and retired medically from the Marine Corps.  He is looking forward to getting out of the hospital and returning to the New York area.  He recently received his "final" set of legs with knees and you will see from the pictures below, there isn't much this young man can do with a positive attitude and motivation.

COAC Facilitates $20,000 of financial assistance to Lance Corporal John G. Curtin through the generous support of employees of General Reinsurance Corporation
Corp Curtin

John Gerald Curtin was born on March 12, 1990.  After graduating from Dover High School (NY) he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps active duty in October of 2009, and left for Afghanistan January 15, 2011.

Some time during the week of February 10-17, 2011, Lance Corporal John Curtin was on a mission which consisted of sweeping a house for mines and weapons.  John was the last one in and guarding the door as the rest of his platoon was sweeping the house.  John moved about a foot in the wrong direction and an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) detonated near him which led to the amputation of both of his legs above the knee, shrapnel to his torso and damage to both of his hands.  His Squad Leader, Corpsman, and Platoon saved his life.  Read more...
